[CGER-D007(CD)-'95]Japan-Korea Ferry (June 1991-February 1993)
Abstract:
A system for marine biogeochemical monitoring using sea water pumped up continuously for the engine cooling system was developed based on a critical review of the existing ocean observation platforms. The parameters selected were water temperature, salinity, pH, fluorescence, dissolved nutrients, chlorophyll-a, and pheopigments. The prototype system was deployed on a ferry boat that used to sail regularly between Kobe, Japan and Pusan, Korea. The system and 1991 results are described in a previous report and the 1992-93 results will be available in the next report with the remarks on the points to be improved. This CD-ROM contains the numerical data and
image files
.
This ferry line was stopped in February, 1993 and we shifted the monitoring program to two other ferry lines. The feasibility of ferry monitoring has been demonstrated in that ferrys can obtain the temporally and spatially detailed records directly measured, which neither satellite nor the other platforms can access. Furthermore, any sensing technology is applicable to the ferry platform along with the regular monitoring missions.
[CGER-D012(CD)-'97]Ferries in the East Asian Marginal Seas(April 1994-December 1995)
Abstract:
This CD-ROM contains the data of a marine environmental monitoring program using 2 ferries, which followed up the previous Japan-Korea Ferry monitoring between Pusan and Kobe1)-3) carried out in 1991-1993 (hereinafter referred to as Line (a)).
The new program is using 2 ferry cruise tracks : Line (b)Osaka - Seto Inland Sea - Beppu and Line (c) Osaka - Kuroshio Current - Okinawa.
The policy of the newly selected geographical coverage is to take over the time series for the Seto Inland Sea part of Line(a) by implementing (b) and to cover the zonation structure between the inner bay - shelf slope - oligotrophic Kuroshio Current by implementing Line (c).
It also includes
computer-generated images
that will help the users visualize the temporal-spatial variations of the parameters.
[CGER-D021(CD)-'99]Ferries in the East Asian Marginal Seas(January 1996-March 1998)
Abstract:
This set of CD-ROMs is the third data publication from a marine environmental monitoring program using ferries since 1991. Disks 1 and 2 contain the data from the Seto Inland Sea track by the "Sunflower 2", and the Osaka - Okinawa track by the "Ferry Kuroshio", respectively. The main contents are the results from continuous sensor measurements (T, S, pH, and fluorescence) on both tracks and from automated filtration sampling (dissolved nutrients, chlorophyll-a, and phaeopigments) on the Seto Inland Sea track. Also included are
x-t diagrams
to help users browse and visualize the temporal and spatial variations of measured items.
